On April 3, Brazil's Foreign Trade Commission (Camex) announced that the import tariff on 25 products used to make ventilators, respirators and other protective masks would be lowered from 26% to zero by September 30.
Camex said the move was aimed at increasing the supply of products used to fight the outbreak. Through this measure, it will be easier to import and the production and operation costs of such products will be reduced.
In the past few weeks, the government has cut tariffs to zero on medicines and hospital products, and introduced import facilitation measures for products such as disposable syringes and plastic tubes used to collect blood. So far, 111 products used to combat the epidemic have zero import duties.
